The Location

Located on the edge of the county of Lincolnshire, on the banks of the River Trent, Gainsborough is a thriving historic market town, 34 miles from Sheffield, 21 miles from Doncaster and 17 miles from Lincoln. It is well connected to the rest of the country, with two major A roads intersecting the town, as well as the nearby M180 motorway which connects to the wider motorway network. Gainsborough also has the added advantage of two train stations.

The town has a rich history, with its medieval origins still visible from the streets and market square. The Grade I listed Old Hall is Lincolnshire’s hidden historical gem. Gainsborough has a long-standing history of industry due to its busy inland port and was the manufacturing base of Marshall, Sons & Co - a major boiler manufacturer founded by William Marshall in 1848. The site, which was the subject of a £36m investment project in 2007, was sympathetically restored and developed to become Marshall’s Yard, a unique retail complex with an extensive range of stores and high quality dining options.

This already thriving town is set to grow significantly through an ambitious £18 million public investment programme which will see the historic fabric of the marketplace and town centre restored and the addition of more big brand shops and new businesses.

In turn, its growth plan has already attracted over £300m+ of private investment, which most notably includes a £50m landmark riverside development, which will create c.220 homes alongside new shops and restaurants all located around a brand new £10m+ marina. This monumental development along with The Old School House, will create an exciting waterfront neighbourhood in this already booming town.

For sport and recreation enthusiasts, Gainsborough boasts an uninterrupted 1.7 mile river walk from the historic Trent Bridge all the way to the picturesque village of Morton. The renowned Thonock Golf Course is located on the edge of the town and is the home to two stunning 18-hole courses. Nearby Market Rasen has a National Hunt Racecourse and the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers some of the most beautiful, unspoiled scenery in the region.
